Job title: Head of E commerce & Digital

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience)

Contract: 40 hours weekly

Job Profile:

The Head of Ecommerce and Digital is a senior role reporting to the company owners, responsible for our e-commerce divisions and digital brands (Japan Centre, Shoryu, Ichiba, Yokocho +).  We are looking for a leader who is passionate about the intersection of ecommerce, Japan and the evolution of the food industry, who thrives with a high degree of autonomy and can balance creativity, organisation and execution to achieve ambitious targets. With their team, the lead will deliver well defined and thought out products, manage our ecommerce operations and optimise customer outcomes, balancing cost, time and quality, along with communication to business stakeholders. The leadership role also involves development of our internal product and UX team and management of external engineering and DevOps.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the sales growth and product development of japancentre.com, ichibalondon.com e-commerce products and other brand websites
  • Setting the business vision and leading the operations to take our digital offerings to the next level.  Identify digital opportunities to improve company performance and brand awareness
  • Think creatively, strategically and with good judgment, to rapidly improve our ecommerce KPIs (acquisition, conversion, retention, frequency, spend and profit). 
  • Formulate a business plan and regularly review performance against goals and objectives
  • Take ownership of and optimise the ecommerce P&L with full accountability in bottom and top line results and reporting, incl control the Ad spend across brands and new launches
  • Understand our customer segments and deliver targeted product and marketing offerings 
  • Identify emerging industry and product trends early on and transform them into winning products or tools for our business
  • Grow the product and UX in house function to deliver beautiful and intuitive ecommerce experiences. 
  • Define engineering requirements with the product team and manage external development team to deliver (front end, back end, DevOps, server maintenance)
  • Working with the Head of Commercial, drive the competitive strategy and pricing to maximise market share
  • With the Head of Marketing develop online marketing channels (email, paid search, SEO, affiliates, partnerships, advertising, direct mail, promotions and events). 
  • Oversee performance of ecommerce Operations Managers and teams. Develop and execute a customer satisfaction strategy across the business using in-depth knowledge of e-commerce, digital and performance.
  • Develop and manage the in house warehouse and stock control functions in line with business needs to aid company growth, cost and stock control, reporting and ultimately profitability
  • Keep abreast of competitor activities and industry developments and inform the business, and apply as necessary to online marketing and sales initiatives. 
  • Manage change and communication to all business stakeholders
  • Line management of internal IT manager
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors such as Fourth, IBS and others.

Essential 

  • An interest in the food industry and Japan 
  • Strong track record of full cycle commercial in-house digital product management, ideally in the hospitality and food retail industry
  • Management and development of ecommerce division or company
  • A solid grasp of analytics tools eg. Google Analytics
  • Experience managing a team as well as external contributors
  • A sound practical understanding of digital marketing for B2C
  • Software engineering methodologies (eg Agile), preferably with recognised qualification 
  • Hands-on, highly organised and able to prioritise to hit deadlines
  • Demonstration of managing multiple product pipelines of varying sizes simultaneously
  • Bachelor's degree or above
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, confident talking with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A proven leader and talent developer

Desired

Technical expertise is not a prerequisite for the role, however these skills or knowledge of their use to grow the business is of benefit:

  • Data warehouse and SQL skills. We use Google BigQuery to analyse our extensive retail and hospitality live data
  • Google G Suite APIs (Google Spreadsheet integration with BigQuery)
  • Experience of using Github or similar source code control systems
  • Experience managing products deployed on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud
  • Web based software development with Ruby on Rails
